Dr Fiona Larsen graduated from the University of Auckland School of Medicine in 1999. She trained in internal Medicine and then Dermatology in Auckland. Following this, Dr Larsen undertook sub-specialised Dermatology training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Centre in Dallas, USA. This involved a year and a half Dermatopathology fellowship, specifically the pathologic diagnosis of skin conditions. Dr Larsen then completed a one-year Procedural Dermatology fellowship, accredited by the American College for Graduate Medical Education. The fellowship encompassed thorough training in Mohs Micrographic Skin Cancer Surgery and cosmetic dermatology.

Dr Larsen is the only New Zealand dermatologist to be dual fellowship trained in both Mohs surgery and dermatopathology.

She is a fellow of the American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS). She is a member of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and a registered Specialist Dermatologist. Dr Larsen is a Fellow of the New Zealand Dermatological Society (NZDSI). She is also a member of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), and the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS). Dr Larsen is board certified in Dermatopathology having successfully passed the ICDP-UEMS International Certifying Examination in Dermatopathology in Frankfurt in December 2008.

Dr Larsen returned to New Zealand and set up Fiona Larsen Dermatology in 2009 on Auckland’s North Shore. In 2020 she opened a purpose built bespoke outpatient surgical facility in Northcote.
