There are now very effective medications for the treatment of acne.

Acne is a common skin condition that occurs when your hair follicles become plugged with oil and dead skin cells. Bacteria grow in the trapped oil and break the oil down to produce fatty substances that irritate your skin. Acne is characterised by whiteheads, blackheads, papules or deep cysts.

Most people will get acne at some time during their lives. It is most common in teens and young adults. The most common form of acne is acne vulgaris.

Early treatment for severe acne may help prevent scarring. Treatments can take up to 3 months to work, but once they do start to work, the results are usually excellent.
